Frequently Asked Questions

1. I'm a beginner.  Can I play?
Yes.  The Aloha Beach Volleyball League offers league play for all skill levels for ages 13 to adult.

2. Do you have tournaments?
Yes.  The Aloha Beach Volleyball League will try to offer adult tournaments or mini tournaments.

3. Do I need to bring equipment? 
No.  We have everything you will need to play.

4. What is Open/Competitive Division?
Open Division is experienced players who know the rules of the game and have competed in Open beach volleyball tournaments. 
All beach volleyball rules will be strictly enforced.

5. What is Recreational Division?
Recreational Division players are beginner/novice players who are looking to have a great mix of competitiveness, fun and social activity.  Rules will be looser to accommodate beginner skill levels.

6. Am I allowed to "drop in" or compete for only a couple of days or while on vacation?
Yes.  We will allow "drop in's". PLEASE SPECIFY YOUR DATES ON THE REGISTRATION FORM OR   Contact Us.

7.  What about identifying skill levels? 
The ABVL director will identify the differences between recreational/intermediate & competitive players.

8. What are Open/Competitive players?
Open players are experienced players who know the rules of the sport and have competed in open beach volleyball tournaments. 
All rules will be strictly enforced.

9.  What are Intermediate or Recreational players?
Intermediate or Recreational players are beginner/novice players who are looking to have a great mix of exercise, fun and socializing.  Rules will be looser to accommodate beginner players.

10.  Competitive Division: How many players are allowed?  Female ratio? Roster size?  Team spots available?
4 vs 4 CO-ED in the Competitive Division.
Two (2) females or two (2) males must be on court at all times. Up to five players allowed on the roster.  Only five team spots available for the 4 vs 4 Competitive.

11. Recreational Division: How many players allowed?  Female ratio? Team spots available?
4 vs 4 CO-ED. 
One (1) female must be on court at all times.  Up to six players allowed on the roster.  Only six team spots available for the 4 vs 4 Recreational.
